I can’t remember a time when I’ve needed the lights of Christmas more than this December.
The impact of the hurricane that blasted our region is still sorely felt.
In our region, the devastation of hundreds of our magnificent trees is a daily reminder.
And then the loss of twenty Santa-believing children in Newtown.
We light candles of remembrance, our faces washed by tears.
We light strings of white lights to beat back the darkness.
We place an angel atop our Christmas tree with special poignancy this year.
Lights twinkle in our trees outside and up and down the driveway,
on the mantles and around the front door.
I don’t want to unplug them.
Goodness outshines evil.
Light overwhelms the dark.
God will dry every tear, and erase all pain.
In the meantime, I will try to carry light within my heart out into the world, and be a kinder, more tolerant person with every challenge I face.
Will you help me turn this world around?
